Hello Beautiful!
If you’re here, you’re probably just starting out as a freelancer and you want to know what you need, the bare essentials in order to work from home.
Yes, we’ve all been there, we’re just starting, and are short on money!
You eventually want to Freelance and quit your day job.
You want to take the reins and control of your life!
I know that when I was starting, I didn’t have much money to spare.
So without further a-do, here are the top 5 Essentials you need to start your freelancing journey!
1 . A Quiet Place To Work
In all honesty, it doesn’t have to be a quiet place. There are plenty of people who need to be surrounded by noise to work.
(I always have to have something playing in the background a podcast, audiobook, business informational Youtube videos, or my daughter playing in the background lol)
That being said it needs to be a place where you can get work done, with the ability to be quiet because you may have to take a call or join a Zoom Meeting!
2 . An Internet Connection
You’ll also need an Internet connection, but if you’re reading this now you can check this right off your list!
(When I started I had the cheapest connection possible, but later was able to upgrade to a faster and more reliable one!)
That being said my house is small, and at first I had to purchase an extender so that it would reach any area of my house. Mainly my room, I wanted to be able to work/ study while my baby was sleeping.
I am an Amazon Affiliate, and I will post a link below for an extender like the one I used. Using my link won’t cost you any more, but if you use my link, I will earn a small commission.
It is the same brand that I used and it was super easy for me to set up.
3 . A Phone
Next up, a smartphone! Which again you probably already have! This is important for communicating with your clients.
It’s honestly it’s a lot easier to read emails and manage tasks on apps, on the go. (especially, if you’re a mom!)
It ends up being a write-off as well when you use it for your business!
Personally, I’ve always been an iPhone girl, so that is what I’ve used since starting my business.
4 . A Laptop or Computer
A lot of people say that you can work from just your phone, but as a virtual Assistant for the last 3 years, that’s just not been the case.
You’ll need it for everything to quickly applying to job leads, responding to emails, virtual meetings, courses, graphic creation etc.
When I started started I had a 10 year old Dell, that decided to stop working as soon as I started my journey. After doing much research, I ended up buying an affordable laptop that could get the job done!
Again I’ll include my affiliate links down below for the one I purchased from amazon. If you do choose to use my link I will make a small commission at no extra cost to you!
After over a year, I was able to upgrade to a Macbook Air, which I love!
It’s so much thinner and lighter and integrates with my phone, Ipad, and airpods.
5 . Lastly, A Place To Start Your Journey
Some people will tell you to just start, and figure it out as you go.
I mean that’s one way if you want to learn by trial and error, and honestly waste a lot of time.
There are a ton of free resources to help you start your freelancing career, just check Youtube!
After doing a ton and I mean TON of research, I ended up choosing The Live Free Academy by Micala Quinn because I wanted the continued support, and the loads of resources she’s provided, freelancers.
I will include my affiliate link below, but I’ve loved the weekly calls, resources, job leads, and FB group support. It’s an amazing community to be a part of!
